Ernest Pappanastos, a member of the well known and
acclaimed Brooklyn Waterfront Artist Coalition, and 1987 graduate of Rhode Island School of Design, has spent the
past fifteen years developing his unique style of painting. Instead of painting on standard canvas, he uses fiberboard
as a surface, and primes the board with mixture of sand and a heavy bonding paint. This allows for an adequate texture
that works with his drybrush technique. His images, with their primitively rough ground hold light from where ever the eye views them.
Working in the field of decorative painting in Manhattan for the past twelve
years, Ernest has mastered a variety of skills, one of them being three-dimensional painting or as better known in the decorative world as Tromp l'oeil, a
characteristic commonly seen in his work.
